Welcome to Martija-IHPE: Who We Are and Why We Do This Work

At the Martija Institute of Health Professions Education (Martija-IHPE), we started with a simple but urgent belief: the quality of health professions education shapes the quality of healthcare — and access to that education should not be determined by zip code.

We are a specialized consulting and community outreach organization built on two connected pillars. On one side, we partner with health professions schools, colleges, and programs to strengthen how they design curriculum, develop faculty, and assess student learning. On the other, we go directly into medically underserved communities to deliver free workshops, oral health initiatives, and health professions pipeline programs — because representation in healthcare begins with exposure and opportunity.

What We Do

Our institutional services include evidence-based curriculum review, learning objective alignment, faculty development workshops, and assessment strategy consulting — all grounded in research and designed to help programs produce better-prepared graduates. Our community programs bring those same principles to the ground level: making oral health education, career mentorship, and health professions awareness accessible to communities that have historically lacked them.

What We Aim to Achieve

Our goal is a self-sustaining cycle of impact. Revenue from our institutional consulting directly funds our community outreach — so every program we improve helps open doors for the next generation of health professionals in underserved areas. We are working toward a future where every community has a pipeline of health professionals who understand it, because they came from it.

We are just getting started, and we are glad you are here. Follow along as we share updates, resources, and stories from the communities and programs we serve.
